Dining under the Skky

Imagine this: Gorging on some Pan Asian delicacies under the moon- and star-lit sky with lively music in the background and choicest cocktails at your disposal. Sounds unreal? Well, you can have all of this in Mumbai, not some outskirts but right in the heart of the city.
Skky restro-lounge housed at Ramada Powai Hotel & Convention Centre boasts of having the a 47-feet-long bar, biggest in Mumbai till now, and a state-of-the-art live kitchen. This is probably one of the few places in India that has a sushi counter offering octopus on the platter.

Segmented by inlets of water bodies and real trees, each table gets the privacy the occupant needs. Given the nature of the restaurant, it is open from 5pm to 1am and is shut during the rains, unless a client wants to host a rain dance party, remarks an F&B executive Mohit Singh.

Wasabi Prawns
Of the 194 dishes on the menu, Chef de Cuisine Rohan Koppikar said that 70% constitutes popular dishes while the remaining are authentic preparations which appeals to the discerning customer. One thing at Skky is that the vegetarian food taste as good as the non-vegetarian options. Being a complete meat-lover, I was surprised as I relished the kamal-kakdi ki shammi kebabs with garlic sauce and the thin-crust vegetable pizza called margherita. Oh! And not to miss out on the crispy, potato-based Beijing pot sticker. You could give the veg California with sticky rice and tofu and Chicken boti kebab a miss. The tofu had unflattering flavours while the kebab too salty. A worthy mention is the Wasabi prawns and Teppanyaki. Never knew a sea insect could taste this good! For those inclined to a healthy food, the vegetable stir fry with wine- and soya-based sauce is the perfect haven.
Wide variety of Sushi
Now along with the food, you need some drinks pouring in. Skky has the best fix – fresh, seasonal fruit juices in cocktails and mocktails, chocotinis and dessert shooters. The Orange Vanilla with vodka, orange juice and triple sec was delicious except for the extra pulp. The watermelon in basil and bacardi rum was good with overpowering taste of basil. Won’t get this in many cocktails.

And to sum up the entire experience, the ice cream variants – pan, basil-kiwi, green tea and strawberry and mint. Our favourite: the green tea and basil-kiwi. But if you are up for some more alcohol then the deconstructed tia maria shooter is your poison. Orange juice, vodka, triple sec and a hint of chocolate. No salt involved. Gulp down the shot and then suck on an orange sliver. A great ending to a creatively-themed restaurant!
